Institutional Web Management Workshop 2012:
Access to WiFi for IWMW 2012 Participants
As in previous years, the IWMW 2012 event organisers will provide access to WiFi in order to enrich the event. This page provides advice on how to access the WiFi using Eduroam.
Note that use of the WiFi is subject to the event's AUP (Acceptable Use Policy).
Use of Eduroam
As describd on the edroam Web site "eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
Use of eduroam for visitors to the University of Edinburgh is described in the advice for visitors provided by the Information Services department at the University of Edinburgh.
You should note the following:
- Your home institution must be a member of the JANET Roaming service, or one of the other global eduroam federations.
- You must be registered to use the eduroam service at your home institution.
You should note the following advice:
"Before you visit the University of Edinburgh, make sure you configure your device to work with the eduroam wireless network at your home institution."
"If your device can successfully connect to eduroam at your home institution you should not need to make any changes to use your device at the University of Edinburgh, or any other institution which supports eduroam."
If You Have Problems
The Information Services department guidelines make it clear that:
"we cannot assist you in configuring your wireless device and can only answer questions regarding availability of the eduroam service in the University
This is a reasonable clarification of the scope of the support which can be provided. However if you do encounter problems connecting to the network we will see what we can do to help. Please note:
- Advice may be provide during the sessions on Preparing For Mobile and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
- Ask for advice from your peers - other participants who have successfully logged in.
However in order to minimise the numbers of problems we strongly recommend that you follow the advice given above: Before you visit the University of Edinburgh, make sure you configure your device to work with the eduroam wireless network at your home institution.
