Brian established the IWMW series of events in 1997 and has been chair or co-chair of the event ever since. Brian has also spoken at all of the IWMW events.

Currently the Senior Web Editor at Robert Gordon University, she was formerly Web Project Manager with Skills Development Scotland (Careers Scotland) and began her passion for the web with Grampian Careers. Katherine has over 30 years experience of managing careers guidance and training services.

Colin Work [anchor]

Colin Work trained and worked as a Librarian in Dublin but was seduced into the IT support world at University of Southampton where he developed and supported information services for many years. He has been involved with the web since 1993.

Now getting back to his roots, Colin has been providing web support in the University of Portsmouth Library since 2011.

Colin chaired the final session on Institutional Case Studies.

Kevin Ashley [anchor]

Kevin AshleyKevin Ashley is Director of the DCC (Digital Curation Centre). He began his career as a developer supporting researchers at a large MRC/NHS research facility. In 25 years at ULCC he was involved in network development, systems management, the provision of web services to organisations such as OFTEL and the British Museum, national services and standards development, before establishing ULCC's Digital Archives Department. That group provides digital preservation, repository and web-based services to a wide range of national bodies as well as engaging in collaborative research on topics such as web preservation (the JISC PoWR project, with UKOLN being one example.) At the DCC he is responsible for raising capability and capacity for research data management in the UK.

EA Draffan trained as a Speech and Language Therapist, before specialising in the field of Assistive Technology and Accessibility. She has since worked with disabled students in Further and Higher Education, set up an Assistive Technology Centre, contributed to the work of JISC TechDis and other institutions and groups. She was a member of the committee that worked on BS 8878. She is now a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton with interests in the ease of use and accessibility of cloud based services and the mainstreaming of assistive technologies.

He has previously worked for King's College London, Webmedia, Netmare, Easynet/Cyberia, and the University of Westminster. He specialises in web management and governance within medium to large organisations. Photo of Tony HirstTony Hirst is an academic in the Department of Communication and Systems at the Open University, but better known for the OUseful Blog on practical applications of Open Data.

In February 2009 Tony and colleague Joss Winn, established WriteToReply, to re-publish the UK Government's Digital Britain Interim Report in a way that allowed readers to comment on each paragraph. This was among a number of experiments to promote greater online public participation in government consultations. In March 2009 Tony created a technique for extracting and presenting subtitles generated from Twitter status updates. Tony won the 2011 "Open Up" contest for his ideas about the use of UCAS data.

Tony was described as "brilliant" in The Guardian data blog for his work analysing the use of twitter by journalists.

Sally KerrSally Kerr has been working with the Web since the 1990s, the Council's primary website for around 10 years and has been Edinburgh Council's Web Manager for over 5 years. Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski [anchor]

Ferdinand von ProndzynskiProfessor Ferdinand von Prondzynski is the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland. He is known as a lawyer, a legal academic, a high profile public commentator and a university leader in Ireland and Scotland. Alex developed the Common Web Design HTML5 and CSS3 presentation framework, runs the data.lincoln.ac.uk platform, built an OAuth 2.0 powered single sign-on platform and has created countless little hacks which bolt systems together.

Photo of Christopher EddieChristopher Eddie is Web Officer in the Public Affairs Directorate of the University of Oxford

Christopher studied Architecture at Edinburgh University. Between 1994-2002 he worked in London beginning in graphic design, then lecturing in IT/graphics/multimedia in FE and HE colleges, then IT/web consultancy and web design for the Greenwich Enterprise Board. In mid 2002 he went AWOL for 2 years.

Since 2004 he has lived in Oxford, initially biding his time in print design for Elsevier then working on its intranet before landing his dream job at Oxford University in 2007.

His favourite projects so far are the Wall of 100 Faces, Oxford's iTunesU channel and Oxford University - The Official Guide App, which is the subject of his workshop.

Rob EnglebrightRob Englebright is a Programme Manager in the JISC eLearning Team. He currently works on the technical aspects of the JISC #coursedata Programme, including the standardisation of XCRI-CAP as BS8581. Rob also oversees the JISC LTIG programme and is the admin of the JISCMail Champ-curriculum list for Further Education.

Prior to working at JISC Rob was the Senior Architect for Digital learning at Becta, managed the NLN implementation team and worked in Further Education as manager, lecturer and instructor over 13 years. Marieke GuyMarieke Guy works for UKOLN and has been involved with the Institutional Web Management Workshop series for many years: as a co-chair, workshop facilitator and participant.

Last year her role at UKOLN changed and she is now an Institutional Support Officer for the Digital Curation Centre(DCC), working towards raising awareness and building capacity for institutional research data management at HEIs.

She deals with researchers and the data they create. Although researchers tend to be a little more precious about their data (!) she feels that many of the issues are also relevant to Web managers and the information they work with.

Photo of Mark PowerMark Power is a researcher in Educational Technology at the University of Bolton. Based at the Institute for Educational Cybernetics, Mark has also been involved in supporting the work of JISC eLearning Programmes through the JISC Innovation Support Centre, CETIS.

While interested in many areas of the use of technology in learning, Mark's focus is now on the rapidly evolving and expanding area of mobile technology and how best to utilise this to deliver institutional services, learning and the relationship between a user's mobile technology and how it can join up personal learning environments with institutionally controlled systems.

Julian PriorJulian Prior is e-Learning Technologist in the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Office, University of Bath. He currently provides support to the Widening Participation and CPD Support and Development offices and is currently working on a number of projects ranging from the creation of student-focused screencasts on Moodle 2 to the JISC-funded Professionalism in the Digital Environment (PriDE) project. He recently received an MSc with distinction in Education, Technology and Society from the University of Bristol.

Photo of Richard ProwseRichard Prowse is a graduate of the University of Leicester. In 2012 he joined the University of Bath as Web Content Manager, responsible for bath.ac.uk. Richard is a digital strategist: passionate about higher education and user experience.

In 2011 while working for Bournemouth University he was shortlisted for the Vice-Chancellor's Unsung Hero of the Year, for his contribution to the University's web development.

Richard has previously presented at Institutional Web Management Workshop (IWMW) events.

Ben Showers [anchor]

Ben ShowersBen Showers is one of JISC's programme managers in the digital infrastructure team working on the Library Management Systems programme. This programme of work is currently engaging with areas including: open source software, user experience and usability as well as broader areas of library infrastructure and institutional systems. He is also responsible for work with the PALS metadata group and a usability programme to help embed usability within higher education organisations.

Ben also has experience of managing digitisation and impact programmes due to his previous role as programme manager with eContent.

David Sloan is an accessibility and inclusive design researcher and consultant from the University of Dundee. His activities include teaching HCI and accessibility on undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, co-ordinating the University's Web Accessibility Support Service, serving as Dundee representative on the European eAccess+ accessibility network and leading a small accessibility consultancy group - the Digital Media Access Group.
